How to get rid of skin problems:
This may be the root cause to your skin problems
Are you struggling with skin problems?
Skin problems such as dry skin, rashes, eczema, acne, discolored skin, rosacea and premature aging?
It can be very frustrating to see blemishes, wrinkles, acne etc, every time you look in the mirror – and it can also have a negative impact on your confidence.
Perhaps you’ve tried different skin care products and treatments, even expensive ones, but you see little or non-lasting results….
The truth is that many times there is no “easy-fix” to skin issues. If no topical skin cream or treatment seem to help, you should try to address what may be the root cause to your skin issues.
Skin problems are often reflecting a disorder on the INSIDE.
Therefore, consider if perhaps the reason to your skin problems might be one or a combination of the following factors:
- Toxin overload
- Blood sugar imbalance
- Digestion and gut flora problems
- Hormonal imbalance
- Weak immune system
1) Toxin overload
Most people know that exposure to tobacco and too much UV light from the sun is damaging for the skin.
Toxins cause oxidative damage – which age and damage the skin.
We’re exposed to many toxins and chemicals every day that can harm our organs including the skin.
There are toxins and chemicals in the air, in the water, in the food – and in our household and personal care products.
Our liver and kidneys are our tools to remove toxins, but with a daily exposure to lots of toxins, it’s no wonder that our detoxifying system can get overloaded. Small amounts of toxins may leak out into the blood stream or start to build up in our organs.
=> Solution: Limit the amount of toxins in your home environment
We can’t do much about the chemicals in the air…
But we can try to find ways to decrease the amount of toxins in your home.
You can e.g.: filter your water, buy healthy and organic foods, choose products such as cleaning products, washing detergent, soap, shampoo, makeup etc, without harmful chemicals and endocrine disruptors. => Safe and natural personal care products
A detox 1-2 times per year can also be useful to support the liver and detoxify your skin, blood and other organs.
2) Blood sugar imbalance
It’s normal for the blood sugar level to rise slightly after every meal, but it’s not natural or healthy if your blood sugar level become excessively elevated and stay that way.
A high or imbalanced blood sugar level is not only bad for your skin, but for your overall health and well being. It may cause diabetes, premature aging and age-related chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease.
The reason for a high and imbalanced blood sugar level is, in many cases, the result of a diet too high in sugar and refined carbohydrates such as white bread, sugar, pasta, pastries, cookies, and candy.
Additionally, do your best to keep your fructose consumption below 15-25 grams a day. This is especially important if you are overweight or have diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
=> Solution: Balance your blood sugar level
Reduce your intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates. Avoid sodas, processed juices, artificial sweeteners, processed foods and high glycemic foods such as white potato, bananas, cereals and white bread.
If you need a sweetener, go for organic Stevia, and for a healthier flour, choose almond or coconut flour.
Eat a balanced diet of clean protein, healthy fats and “good” carbs, that is, mainly vegetables.
You can also supplement with Chromium, it can help to balance your blood sugar and decrease your cravings for sweets.
3) Digestion and gut flora problems
Skin and digestive problems go hand in hand.
Problems with digestion or a leaky gut can cause the immune system to go into overdrive. This may result in inflammation – which can lead to issues like eczema, acne and dermatitis.
Some factors that cause bad gut flora and digestion problems are stress, poor dietary choices (think processed foods, too much sugar and white refined carbs), or the use of some medications such as antibiotics and steroids.
The bacteria living in your colon can be good, that is they help to digest food and keep harmful bacteria and harmful toxins out of the bloodstream.
When the good bacteria (probiotic) dominates – your skin looks great.
If the bad bacteria dominates, then this will have a negative effect on your skin.
Basically, foods high in sugar and processed foods contribute to the growth of bad bacteria.
=> Solution: Improve your digestion and support your gut health
To support your digestion, eat fiber and nutrient rich foods – and remember not to eat too fast and to chew properly!
This will support and improve your digestion.
To support your gut health, choose probiotic drinks and foods such as Kombucha, Kefir, herbal teas, yogurt and fermented foods.
Also try to avoid ongoing stress and unnecessary medication.
Supplement with probiotics and / or L-Glutamine, which can help repair damage in digestive tract.
4) Hormonal imbalance
Hormones have a massive effect on your health and beauty.
If you want healthy, glowing and beautiful skin, balancing your hormones is a major factor to make it happen.
The foods you eat have a major impact on your hormones. It can either support hormonal production, or cause imbalance.
Your body needs a balance of all macronutrients: clean proteins, carbohydrates such as anti-oxidant rich vegetables and healthy fats.
Healthy fats are not an option, they are a must-have to produce and maintain proper hormone function and balance.
Stress and poor sleep have a negative impact on your hormonal balance.
Typical hormonal imbalance symptoms are dry skin, acne, pimples, fatigue, dry hair, weight gain, PMS.
=> Solution: Support your hormonal balance
Make sure you eat healthy fats such as butter from grass-fed cows, avocado, almonds, olive oil and coconut oil. Your body can’t build and regulate your hormones without it.
Moreover, to support your hormonal balance, you must sleep enough (7-10 hours), exercise every day (it can be a 20-30 minute walk), and avoid negative, ongoing stress.
You also want to avoid pesticides, plastics (BPA), and other toxins in your home – and above all endocrine disruptors.
Use cleaning products, soap, skin care products, shampoo makeup etc, made of natural and safe ingredients.
You can also do a detox 1-2 times per year. It can help to detoxify your system and to keep your hormones in balance.
5) Weak immune system
If your immune system is not in balance, it can lead to chronic inflammation in your body. This makes you more disposed to develop an imbalance in your gut and your skin micro biome.
This can in turn effect the skin in the forms of eczema, lymph gland swelling, hives, flushing, red spots, acne.
With a weak immune system, you may also develop an autoimmune disease such as thyroid, Lupus and psoriasis.
To support your immune function, it’s important to eat nutritious foods, but it’s also important to eliminate any foods that trigger inflammation and foods your body may be allergic or sensitive to.
And remember that it can also be that you’re allergic or sensitive to super healthy foods, like broccoli, coconut oil, eggs or papaya – it doesn’t have to be “unhealthy” foods you’re sensitive to.
If you notice an allergy or sensitivity to something you eat or drink, it’s important not to burden your system with it. Otherwise your immune system may get weaker.
=> Solution: Boost your immune system
To boost your immune system, eat anti-oxidant rich foods and foods with anti-inflammatory Omega-3s.
Also eliminate foods you’re allergic or sensitive to – even if it’s a healthy food.
You should also avoid inflammation triggering foods, such as: sugar, milk, refined carbohydrates, processed foods and hydrogenated oils.
Eat a lot of berries and cruciferous vegetables and other non-GMO, organic whole foods.
Half an hour exercise each day (outdoor activity is preferable!) is a great way to strengthen your immune system, so is stress management and relaxation – such as taking a power nap, a warm bath or a massage now and then.
Here’s a summary of what may be the solution to “fix” the root cause of your skin problems:
- Eat foods that support your skin health: eat whole, unprocessed, organic nutrient rich foods
- Avoid foods and drinks that can ruin your skin (and health): such as sugar, refined carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners, sodas, processed foods and drinks and sweets
- Avoid unnecessary medications: sometimes there are natural remedies that can help – but of course sometimes medications are necessary and even life-saving
- Live a healthier lifestyle: Exercise 30-60 min per day (basically: be active and move more), if you smoke – stop smoking, avoid negative, ongoing stress and schedule time for relaxation
- Sleep 7-10 hours per night
- Avoid toxins and endocrine disruptors when you have the choice: choose e.g. organic personal care items such as skin care items, shampoo, body lotion and makeup
- Have a detox 1-2 times per year to help your body detoxify and strengthen your immune system and hormonal balance
- Take a nutritional supplement such as a probiotic supplement or L-Glutamine to support your digestion and gut health, and a supplement loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to support your immune system
