How To Apply Blush For Your Face Shape To Enhance Your Looks

Blush is great to add some color to your face.

You can also use blush to contour and define your cheek bones. To apply blush where it will be most flattering on you, you must first determine what your face shape is.

Knowing your face shape is crucial to choose makeup shades and techniques that defines your cheek bones and enhance your looks.

Your face shape can be: oval, heart, square, round, long and triangle.

I’ll now share some great blush makeup tips from Leisel Mower.

Blush makeup tips step one: Decide Your Face Shape!

“…The secret to getting the most from your blush is matching your color based upon the shape of your face.
When choosing your blush , you must first decide on just what kind of a face shape you have. I have listed the basic face shapes below to make your choice easier.

Once you’ve picked a shape, you need to decide on a shade. You want to select a shade that is your everyday color, not one based on your color say, after a workout. If you’re like me, my cheeks turn a bright red after a tough session at the gym and matching that color would give me permanent sunburn.

Another helpful color tip is to choose a shade that is similar to your favorite lip color… after all, colors that flatter your lips also flatter your cheeks.

Finally, always remember that blush creates an optical illusion that draws the eye to wherever you apply it. Deciding on the shape of your face will also help you to determine just how and where to apply your blush.

Here’s how to apply blush for different face shapes:

Oval Face Shape

Oval Faces

Sweep your blush over your cheekbones. You can easily find your cheekbone with your fingers – aim to place the color just above the bone rather than towards the hollow beneath it to help raise the height of your cheekbone.

Heart Face Shape

Heart Shaped Faces

Because your face can appear pointy, we need to soften the edges so it appears more like an oval. Apply blush to the outer corner of your cheekbone, starting by your ear and ending at a point below the outer corner of your eye. Also add a touch of color by your temples, towards the center of your forehead, to help balance the width of your forehead with your chin.

Square Face Shape

Square Faces

Your cheekbones are the same width as your chin, so to help define them apply your blush slightly below the cheekbone. Blush in the hairline will help soften the edges of your face.

Round Face Shape

Round Faces

Try not to use pearlised or highly reflective blushers as these reflect the light well and make a surface appear more round, which we want to avoid – matte blushers would be best for you. Sweep your blush from the ear down the cheekbone towards the mouth. Add a little touch of blush to the chin and blend it well to make your face appear longer.

Long Face Shape

Long Faces

Apply blush on cheekbones below the outer corners of the eyes and blend well. Be sure the blush never extends lower than the tip of the nose.

Triangle Face Shape

Triangular Faces

Blush should be applied in a sideways V on the cheekbones. Blend up from your cheekbones to your temple and then extend the blush over your brow a bit toward the center of your forehead. This will help to balance the width of your forehead with the rest of your face.”
