Natural Facial Mask Recipes For Youthful Skin

Here are some great anti-aging facial mask recipes, using natural, fresh ingredients so your skin will benefit from the high nutrient content.

And some of the ingredients in the following recipes you most likely already have in your kitchen!

But before you get started applying a mask, it’s important that you cleanse your skin. In general, you can leave a mask on for about 10-20 minutes, this allows the beneficial ingredients to penetrate your skin. And in case you find that the mask dries too quickly, just spritz it with some water or a toner.

After 10-20 minutes, you rinse your mask off with warm water and use a washcloth to completely remove it. When your face is clean, splash your face with cold water – or a toner – to close your pores. Then you can follow up with your preference of toner, serum, and / or oil, and you’ll feel great!

Anti-Aging Face Mask Yogurt

#1: Yogurt Mask

Live-culture yogurt contains zinc and lactic acid (a natural hydroxy acid) that are great for your skin. And the good fats in yogurt help to nourish your skin.

A live-culture yogurt mask is a great way to balance your skin’s microbiome. Lactobacillus plantarum in natural live-yogurts, increases skin hydration, reduces facial wrinkles and improves skin elasticity and glow.

Take 1,5 tbsp organic, live-culture yogurt, apply and leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse off with warm water

Tip:

  • If you have dry skin, add 1 tsp of olive oil or raw honey to the yogurt mask
  • If you have problems with acne, add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • If you have sun damaged skin or want to brighten your skin, add 1 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice

 

#2: Aloe Vera

Few things beat the healing properties of aloe vera. It has also been shown to increase collagen production in the skin, which helps with wrinkle reduction and a more youthful looking, radiant skin. Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to your skin.

Tip:

  • Mix one tablespoon of natural yoghurt with the aloe vera gel until you get a smooth liquid if you have very dry skin
  • If you have oily skin and clogged pores, mix the aloe vera gel with honey until you get a creamy paste. Honey has antibacterial properties.

 

Face Mask Cucumber

#3: Cucumber Mask

A single cucumber contains many different minerals and vitamins including vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, folic acid, iron, magnesium and much more.

Cucumbers are believed to have anti-inflammatory benefits. Used directly on the skin, sliced cucumber has a cooling and soothing effect that decreases swelling, irritation, and inflammation.

Create a skin cream by pureeing half a cucumber with 1-2 mint leaves. Then, mix in half a cup of Greek yogurt. Refrigerate it for 15-30 minutes before applying.

You can keep the remainder of the mask in the fridge, and use it within a week.

Tip:

  • Cucumber can help to alleviate sunburn
  • Slices of cucumber on the eye lids can help decrease morning puffiness (another option for this is to apply cooled green tea bags on your eye lids)

 

#4: Banana Mask

Bananas contain natural vitamins and powerful oils that will improve your complexion and overall skin health.

You can easily create a mask by mashing one banana and then pasting it to the skin. Make sure that the banana is mashed enough so that it forms a smooth paste. Refrigerate the paste about 15-30 minutes before applying so it gets more firm.

Papaya Facial Mask Anti-Aging

#5: Papaya Mask

Papaya is a super food, rich in a variety of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that may help to promote skin renewal, brighten the complexion and improve skin elasticity.

Take approx. 2-4 spoons of a ripe papaya, smash it in a bowl and add 1 tbsp lemon juice, then mix it.

#6 Bonus Recipe: Coconut Oil Mask

Coconut oil is high in lauric acid and healthy fats, which smoothes your skin and moisturizes it, so it makes an amazing, natural moisturizer.

Moreover it contains antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin A, which help to slow down the aging process and may help to reduce the damage from free radicals and the sun.

Take 1 tbsp organic virgin coconut oil and mix it with a pinch or turmeric powder. Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory compounds, and also antioxidants that protect the skin from damage due to free radicals. Moreover, it enhances the collagen production in the skin and improves its elasticity.

Face Masks vs Facial Masks?

By the way, just as a short anecdote, do you know if there is a difference between the terms face mask and facial mask or if they can be used interchangeably? I actually had to look it up, and according to Wikipedia:

A facial mask is a creamy or thick pasted mask applied to the face for cleansing or skin-smoothing purposes. Facial masks often contain minerals, vitamins, and fruit extracts, such as cactus and cucumber.

Whereas many brands call their masks simply Face Mask… but this term is also used for protective equipment etc.
