9 Ways To Boost Your Energy And Stop Feeling Tired All The Time

Are you feeling tired all the time and have difficulty to stay awake throughout the day?

You are not alone. Unfortunately, lacking energy is a quite common problem nowadays. Too much negative stress, unhealthy eating habits and information overload are some reasons why many of us have this problem. Whatever the reason is, it’s really frustrating to feel that the energy level is constantly low when you want to feel the opposite.

Persistent fatigue can also cause mental health issues such as depression, burnout, mood swings, decreased creativity, and physical health issues such as heart disease, obesity and a weakened immune system.

But… fortunately there are some lifestyle changes you can start implementing today, that will help increase your energy and fight tiredness.

9 ways to help boost your energy and prevent feeling tired:

1. Get a good night’s sleep

Poor sleep quality, irregular sleep schedules, scrolling in bed before going to sleep will drain your energy levels. Make sure you are getting enough quality REM sleep to feel rested and rejuvenated in the morning. Aim for 6-8 hours of sleep each night, try to establish a regular sleep schedule and avoid screens an hour before going to bed. You have to figure out how many hours of sleep that works best for you, for some perhaps just 6 hours is enough most nights, whereas some people need 8 or even 9 hours.

2. Stay hydrated

3. Eat a balanced diet

Fuel your body with healthy foods: plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. When you include foods with a variety of nutrients in your diet, it will give you sustained energy throughout the day. Keep in mind that whole grains and high fibre foods take longer for your body to digest, so the energy in them is released in a gradual, more steady way – than simple carbs like sugar – and therefore last longer.

4. Exercise regularly

Regular exercise can help increase energy levels, improve your mood and reduce feelings of fatigue. So find activities you enjoy and don’t overdo it, because overexertion can also lead to fatigue. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week, and when you can, get out in nature and breathe clean air.

5. Manage stress

Chronic negative stress can drain your energy and leave you feeling exhausted. Practice stress-reducing techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or yoga to help manage stress levels and increase energy.

6. Limit caffeine and sugar

While caffeine and sugar can provide a temporary energy boost, they can also lead to crashes and feelings of fatigue later on. Try to limit your intake of these substances and opt for healthier sources of energy instead.

7. Take short breaks

Take short ‘micro-breaks’ to rest and recharge throughout the day. Even just a few minutes of relaxation can help boost your energy levels. If you learn how to be intentional with your time, focus on what’s most important and break tasks into doable chunks, it will  be possible to take those well needed micro-breaks. And if you have a flexible work schedule or if you’re perhaps working from home and have the possibility to take a power nap for 20 minutes – do it! It will do you good and help you to recharge.

8. Avoid information overload

In today’s world of constant exposure to news, emails, social media, entertainment and being always “on”, it’s no wonder many of us feel mentally drained and overwhelmed. And information is at our fingertips, you just have to “Google it”. Try to set a timer for how long you allow yourself to be on social media, watch the news, read email etc. Instead, make it a priority to spend more time with friends and family and your favorite hobby.

9. Stay active

Staying active throughout the day can help prevent feelings of fatigue. Try to incorporate movement into your daily routine, such as taking short walks, stretching, or standing up and moving around regularly. According to recent research, a 30-minutes walk or a bit more each day can help to prevent heart attack and stroke.

=> Keep in mind that if your tiredness is a constant problem every day, you should make an appointment and speak with your doctor. There are many health issues than can cause tiredness: heart conditions, diabetes, the thyroid, anaemia and auto-immune diseases to mention a few. Additionally, if you take any medication then this can cause tiredness as a side effect.
